The word shakar, strong drink is used 60 times in the Bible and only 5 refer to something good and acceptable. They tried to give Jesus strong drink on the cross but He refused its (Matt 27:34) but accepted the vinegar or diluted wine (27:48).
Prov 31:4 really settles the issue of the recreational use of fermented wine - "It is not for Kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine (fermented drink; nor for princes strong drink (shakar -intensely alcoholic drink).
John said that when we are immersed in Jesus we will also be immersed in the Holy Spirit who is the fire, the energy, and the passion of God! We need pastors, deacons, men and women who stay immersed in Jesus thus displaying the fire, energy and passion of God. You can see it in John when he publicly confronted Herod for his sin. We seek to be sensitive, but John sought to be on fire!!!
