"The gospel of convenience dominates twentieth-century theology. Some are preaching psychological positivism in place of the true gospel of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. They seem committed to making the gospel pleasing, soothing, comfortable and palatable to even the worst of sinners. They talk much of the love of God but little of the judgment of God. They seem to worship the God who wants you happy, not the God who wants you holy."

I hope that you will join us this Thursday night from 7-10 PM for our First Annual New Years Eve Celebration. The Weatherman is predicting rain, but lets pray for a 5 hour window of clear skies and no rain.
July 4th we had over 250 people watching our fireworks. We are praying for that and more for New Years Eve. Pray for people to be saved, lives changed and homes strengthened as the Gospel is shared. Pray for the Choir as they sing.
We need the members of HBC to step up and volunteer to serve food, register guest, monitor the bounce houses and assist in parking. Jay Baker will be here to help us with the fire works and he will stay over and Preach in the Morning Service, Jan 2, 2016.
Invite everyone you see. Tell them how great the 4th celebration was and that this one is going to be better.
Religion has always been about earning God's love, about doing enough to cause God to love us, about being sure that our good deeds outweigh our bad deeds so we can be with God in heaven.
Muslims, who are never really sure that they are acceptable in Gods sight, try to earn that assurance by dying a martyr's death while killing infidels. Church people try to earn God's love by being baptized, or taking Communion, or giving their money. Atheist say why try because when we die its all over. All of these ways end in emptiness and judgment. God said that there is none righteous, no not one. He also said that all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags. And He said the soul that sins (that's everyone) will be separated from Him and spend an eternity in pain and anguish. No hope! No chance! No way to earn or deserve anything but Hell.
That's a pretty bleak outlook unless you know the rest of the story. Paraphrasing John 3:16 which says God loved all humanity so much that He gave His one and only Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross for our sins and if we believe that He paid our sin debt and that He rose from the dead any human being may be saved. Eph 2:8-9 says that we are saved by grace through faith and that its a gift from God and not anything we do. God has a gift, the greatest gift, the mostly costly gift, the most unique gift in eternity for us.... SALVATION through the finished work of His Son. Have you received this free gift?
If Not it's yours for the asking. But there is a catch to it. When He gives you this gift He takes your sin and gives you a new heart. He gives you a desire to live a life that is pleasing to Him. He gives you love for your enemies. He gives you strength to say no to sin and yes to Him. He changes your life forever. What a gift.
